Introduction to the Stone Forest
The Stone Forest, located within the Stone Forest County, the hinterland of Eastern Yunnan plateau, is about 70 kilometers far away from Kunming. It is neither too hot in summer nor too cold in winter all the year around. The Stone Forest is an integrally famous touristy region combined with natural scenery, ethnic customs, leisure and scientific investigation. The sceneries in the Stone Forest are characterized with Karsts, famous for their profoundness, adventurousness, thrill, beauty, abstractness and ampleness. The county possesses the most distinguishable Karts landforms all over the world, which enjoys the academic reputation of world geology.

Shapes of the Stone Forest
The Stone Forest was formed 270 million years ago. Having experiencing the long geological evolution and complicated pale geographic environment changes, today’s extremely valuable geological relics came into being. Karsts in the Stone Forests cover almost all kinds of the Karsts in the world. It seems that all shaped Karsts spread all over the world are gathered in the Stone Forest. There is a patchwork of stone teeth, peak cluster, melting hills, caves dissolution lakes, waterfalls and underground rivers, which is the most informative panorama gram of the typical ecosystem of the Karsts in the Stone Forest.

Scenic Spots
The Stone Forest scenic spot, as wide as 1100 square kilometers, are stately. The protection zone is about 350 square kilometers wide, in which there lie adventurous mountains and various waterfalls with distinguishable features. The spots can be divided into eight zones, namely, the Stone Forest Spot, the Black Pine Rock Spot(Ancient Stone Forest), Zhiyun Cave, the Long Lake, Dragon Waterfall(the Great Stack) Spot, Kyu Mountain National Forest Park, the Moon Lake and the Odd Wind Cave. Among them, the resorts that have been developed are the Stone Forest Spot(central spot), the Black Pine Rock Spot(Ancient Stone Forest), Dragon Waterfall(the Great Stack) Spot and the Long Lake Spot.

Landscapes in the scenic spots
As if being into the time tunnel when the tourists went into the spots, it is likely for the tourists to fully experience the Seven Wonders of nature. The waterfalls are like the mazes in the undersea while the cliffs and the peaks are rugged like mighty force. Simultaneously, the peaks resemble secluded castles, as being birds and beasts as everydayness, vivid and lifelike. 

 “Oriental Carnival”
There is more distinguishable culture of Sani indigenous customs in the Stone Forest, excluding the spectacular natural sceneries. The most influential part of their culture is “the poem”, “the movie”, “the song” and “the day”. Ashima, an ancient Sani narrative poem recorded by Yi characters, has been translated into more than 20 languages and published domestically and abroad. Later on Ashima was adapted into the first color sound film “Ashima” that enjoys reputation overseas. “The song” of Sani, Guests From Afar, Please Stay, is legendary all over the world. June 4th of the lunar calendar each year is the traditional Sani Yi Nationality Torch Festival. On that day, wrestling, bullfighting and torch carnival can be seen evreywhere spectacularly so that it is called “Oriental Carnival”.
