From the hilltop one can not only have a big picture of the Naigu Stone Forest, but also can appreciate the typical pinnacle karst. Pinnacle karst is a special karst landform characterized by densely clustered high and sharp carbonate pillars and columns. The rock pillars have following features: 1. acute spire; 2. razor sharp ridge; 3. extensive rillenkarren.
Shilin (Stone Forest) is the type site of pinnacle karst. Pinnacle karst usually developed from pure limestone but rarely developed from dolomitic limestone because the rock is more resistant to dissolution. But Naigu Stone Forest is an exception in the world, the dolomitic limestone has been shaped into perfect pinnacal karst.
