Why Some Stone Pillars Thinned in the Lower Part?

Naigu Stone Forest is different from the Major Stone Forest not only in color but also in shape. Some stone pillars here are thick in the upper part and thin in the lower part, or with a distinct recession in the middle. It is because the rock contains some chert layers. Chert layer is hard, brittle and more resistant to water dissolution, but easy to break and collapse when compressed, usually forming recessions in the rock pillars.
