“Naigu” means “black” in Yi language. Naigu Stone Foret is Located in the north part of the Stone Forest National Park, covering more than 10 square kilometers. Naigu Stone Forest is an important component of the Stone Forest World Heritage.
Naigu Stone Forest developed mainly from Middle Permian dolomitic limestone (Qixia Formation) formed some 270 million years ago. Being more resistant to water solution than pure limestone, dolomitic limestone is rarely shaped into stone forest landform (pinnacle karst) in the world. But Naigu Stone Forest is an exception with its perfect stone forest features.
Naigu Stone Forest as a whole is in dark gray color. The stone pillars are thick and tall, looks like baronial castles on hilltop, imposing and spectacular, displaying unique natural beauty.
