Embroidery Products of Sani People
The Sani people generations who live in the Stone Forest are as wise and industrious as versatile. The females are expert in cross-stitch of embroidery. The Sani embroidery is a unique technique, which has a great historical significance. There exists a deal of techniques in the cross-stitch including Tiao (picking), Xiu (embroidery), Bu (patching), Kou (knotting), Danmian Tiao (picking on only one side of the cloth) and Shuangmian Xiu (embroidering on the both sides of the cloth) and so on. From the childhood, the females have to learn from their elder generations about the techniques of linen, woven linen, spinning, weaving, sewing and embroidering. Whether to be able to embroidery or not has been regarded as a norm to measure women’s talent.
The major products of the embroidery comprised of clothes, head cloths, waistcloths, ties, embroidered shoes, bonnets, umbrella covers, tablecloths, curtains, wall hangings, letter-holders, backpacks, bags, purses and wallets, pockets and handbags. A wide range of embroideries are involved in the daily lives of the Sani People. The figures iAn the embroideries are so as detailed as delicate and balanced in the arrangements with flaming colors to be loved by the Chinese and foreign tourists. All the embroideries are available in the souvenir shops in the Stone Forest scenic spots. In the colorful shops sit the Sani women who are serene and devoted into shuttling the needles off and on the cloth. Suppose there is a tourist who is interested in it they will introduce the products to the tourists in influent Chinese Mandarin, English or Japanese. The embroideries totally made up by barely hands will be more expensive than the ones made up by machines.
