On October 25th and 26th, South China Karsts World Natural Heritage 2011 Annual Meeting was held in the Stone Forest. It was a great opportunity for the Stone Forest in Yunnan Province, Libo in Guizhou Province and Wulong in Chongqing, the three members of the South China Karsts World Natural Heritage, to get together, to explore the brotherhood furthermore, to share the opinions on heritage protection and to plan the promising future together.

In June, 2009 the first South China Karsts World Natural Heritage Annual Meeting was held in Libo, Guizhou. The members of the WNH the Stone Forest in Yunnan Province, Libo in Guizhou Province and Wulong, Chongqing signed the Libo Manifesto during the meeting. Within the Libo Manifesto, it was clearly written that the South China Karsts World Natural Heritage Annual Meeting should be held every year and the subject for every meeting should be clarified, which aimed at strengthening the relationship among three places, communicating the work experience with each other and promoting the mutually scientific, sustainable, healthy and development of the South China Karsts World Natural Heritage protection and maintenances work.

The subject of the annual meeting was to strengthen the ability of booming agriculture with tourism and to promote heritage protection. Urban Construction Division of the Ministry of National Housing and Urban-Rural Development, Housing and Urban-Rural Construction Departments of Yunnan Province and Guizhou Province, Chongqing Bureau of Parks and Woods, the Stone Forest, Libo and Wulong local governments and heritage management departments’ leaders attended the annual meeting. 

During the meeting, the Deputy Director of the Ministry of the National Housing and Urban-Rural Construction Ruitian Wang addressed. Deputy Director Wang spoke highly of the South China Karsts World Natural Heritage Annual Meeting. Simultaneously, he dictated higher and more stringent demands on the protection of Karsts Heritage, management and sustainable development. He also oriented the protection and heritage management in the future days. The governments and heritage management departments heads addressed respectively on the meeting subject and communicated with each other, which contributed a lot of original ideas on the strategies and plans for the South China Karsts World Natural Heritage scientific reservation and management. Under the discussion of much thought, the three parties signed the Stone Forest Agreement.

The main content of the Stone Forest Agreement is under the flame of the UNESCO Culture Protection and Natural Heritage Convention, the three heritage management departments of the Stone Forest, Libo and Wulong set up the joint long-term working mechanism------ “South China Karsts World Natural Heritage Reservation Management Committee” (short for CMC) ------ and they made specific provisions on department design of the committee, responsibilities and management of fund.

During the meeting, people who presented the meeting also visited and inspected the Major Stone Forest and the Minor Stone Forest, the Long Lake, Naigu Stone Forest Scenic Spot and the construction, management and reservation of the Stone Forest Karsts Geological Museum.
